FAQ

What size mattress fits the Bailey Cot?

There are 2 size cots available in Bailey collection.

140x70 Cot. Mattress length: 1400mm, width: 700mm and no thicker than 125mm
120x60 Cot. Mattress length: 1200mm, width: 600mm and no thicker than 125mm

What mattress do you recommend for the Bailey Cot?

We recommend a mattress from the Babyrest range of cot mattresses. We have 3 different cot mattresses available. To help you decide which mattress is best for you read our helpful Cot Mattress Buying Guide

What height should I have the mattress base at?

If you are using your cot for a newborn baby, you should have the mattress base in the higher setting. This allows you to take your baby in and out of the cot, or attend to your baby without having to bend down too far. If you are using your cot for an older child that can sit up or is starting to show signs of sitting up on their own (for example if you used a bassinet for your baby to start with), the base should be in the lower position.

When should I lower the height of the mattress base?

You should lower the mattress base to the lower position as soon as your baby shows signs of sitting up on their own. This is important to ensure the safety of your baby. Babies develop very quickly and if you leave the mattress base in the higher position when they can sit up it won't be very long before they can climb out of the cot. When it's in the lower position, an older baby won't be able to climb out of the cot.

Do I need to assemble the Babyrest Bailey furniture?

Yes. The Babyrest Bailey furniture comes flat packed. There is a reasonable amount of assembly required. We estimate that it would take approximately 1 hour to assemble the cot and 1.5 hours to assemble the chest.

Do you have recommended installers that will assemble my Babyrest furniture for me?

Yes we do. We have a number of installers across Australia that can assemble your Babyrest furniture. Contact us and advise your location and we'll put you in touch with a recommended installer.

Do I need to fix the chest to the wall?

Yes we recommend fixing the chest to the wall behind. This is to avoid the risk of the chest tipping over. For example, if all the drawers are pulled out at once and they have a lot of weight in them, the chest may tip. Or if a toddler climbs in the drawers the chest may tip. There are holes in the back of the chest that you can screw through into the wall. You will need to source the best fixing for the wall depending on the type of wall.

What mattress protector fits the Bailey Cot?

120x60 Cot. The Babyrest Cot Mattress Protector, size: 130 x 69cm.
140x70 Cot. The Babyrest Cot Mattress Protector, size: 140 x 70cm.

What materials is the Babyrest Bailey furniture made from?

Babyrest Bailey furniture is made of a combination of MDF and MFC and European Beech. The body of the chest is made from MFC. The ends and sides of the cot, and the drawer fronts of the chest are made from MDF. The legs of the chest and cot are made from European Beech.

How do I know the Babyrest Bailey furniture is safe?

The Babyrest Bailey furntiure has been tested to stringent safety standards. The Cot conforms to Household Cots Safety Standard: AS/NZS: 2172/2003 + CPN No 6 of 2005. Paints & finishes are certified non-toxic & safe for children according to EN71-3:2019 and EN 16516

What does 3-in-1 functionality mean?

There are 3 functions of the Babyrest Bailey Cot 140x70cm. The first function is bassinet mode and this is when the mattress base is in the higher position - use from newborn through to when baby is starting to show signs of sitting up themselves. The second function is toddler mode and this is when the mattress base is in the lower position - use from when baby is sitting up until it's time to change to the Junior Bedrail (see below question for more information). The third function is toddler bed / daybed with the addition of the Junior Bedrail accessory. This is an optional purchase and is available in standard or high. This third function is not available in the 120x60cm as there is no Junior Bedrail available in this size.

When should I change to a Junior Bedrail?

When your toddler is growing up and is old enough to get in and out of bed by themselves, you should change to a Junior Bedrail. If you leave it too late to change your toddler may try and climb in and out themselves and fall. The other thing to consider is toilet training. Once you start toilet training your toddler, you will want them to be able to get out of bed to go to the toilet so you should switch to the Junior Bedrail. Once your child outgrows the toddler bed, you should switch to a single bed.

How can I purchase the Junior Bedrail?

You can purchase the Junior Bedrails here or from a Babyrest furniture stockist. We have 2 options: standard and high. The standard one is a similar height to the mattress. The high one is higher with a cutout down to the height of the mattress - this will stop your child from rolling out of bed, but also allows them to get in and out.

Do I need one or two Junior Bedrails?

This is up to you. You only need one side to allow your child to get in and out of bed themselves. However you may prefer the look with both cot sides removed and replaced with Junior Bedrails.

Do you sell a change tray for the top of the chest?

No we don't. We recommend the use of a free standing change mat such as the Babyrest Nova Change Mat or the Babyrest Premium Changer Top. You can read more about this topic in our blog: Do I need a timber change tray for my dresser?
